Formats and Tournaments

The three cricket formats and the most popular competitions

Cricket is played in three main formats — T20, One Day (ODI) and Test. Each format has its own pace and the betting markets are arranged accordingly.

T20: Only 20 overs per side, so every wicket and every big shot directly affects the odds. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL matches are played in this format, and live betting is especially popular here. The T20 World Cup offers a chance to bet while watching the Tigers compete on the international stage.

ODI: Fifty-over matches involve more strategy. There is an opportunity to bet based on a team's mid-innings performance. The betting markets for ODIs are at their broadest during major ICC tournaments.

Test: Conditions shift repeatedly over five days. Pitch, weather and the progress of each innings all affect market prices. A draw is a valid result in Test cricket, so the odds structure is different.

During the BPL season, bajibet lets you bet on matches both before and during play. The number of markets also increases during IPL and international series.

Other Sports

How betting differs in football and other sports

Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football, tennis, badminton and kabaddi at bajibet. However, there are some key differences between the betting structure for cricket and football.

Football has three possible outcomes — Team A win, Team B win, and draw. This "1X2" market is the simplest. In limited-overs cricket there is no draw, so the market is split between two possibilities. Test cricket has a draw as a third outcome, similar to football.

Football betting is points-based — how many goals will be scored, who will score first. Cricket betting is broader — markets can cover runs, wickets, overs, boundaries, and even the outcome of a specific delivery. This variety sets cricket apart in the betting space.

Other sports have fewer markets by comparison, but the core principle is the same — understand the odds and bet as part of your entertainment.

Betting Markets

The most commonly played cricket betting markets

How each market works — with simple examples.

Match Winner

Which of the two teams will win — this is the most straightforward market. Team A vs Team B in a T20 — if the side you back wins, you collect.

Pre-match and Live

Toss Winner

A bet on which team wins the toss before the match starts. The result is entirely independent and has no connection to pitch conditions or form. Odds for both teams are usually close to each other.

Pre-match

Top Batsman

Which batsman will score the most runs for a given team — that is what this market is about. The team's batting order and the nature of the pitch influence this market.

Pre-match

Total Runs Over / Under

A bet on whether the runs scored in an innings or across the whole match will be more (over) or fewer (under) than a set number. Example: over or under a line of 165 runs in the first innings.

Pre-match and Live

Multi Bet

Combining selections from multiple matches multiplies the odds together. All selections must win — if any one loses, the entire bet is lost. More detail in the odds explanation below.

Multi Market

Top Bowler

This market is about which bowler will take the most wickets for a team. The pitch conditions and the bowler's recent form are taken into account.

Understanding Odds

The difference between Decimal, Fractional and American odds

The same price is written in three formats — see the examples below.

Example 1 — Team A wins, bet ৳1,000

Decimal Odds: 2.50
Fractional Odds: 3/2
American Odds: +150

If Team A wins, you get back ৳2,500 (profit ৳1,500 + original bet ৳1,000). If Team A loses, you lose ৳1,000.

Example 2 — Team B is the favourite, bet ৳1,000

Decimal Odds: 1.50
Fractional Odds: 1/2
American Odds: -200

If Team B wins, you get back ৳1,500 (profit ৳500). American minus odds show how much you need to bet to make a profit of 100.

How odds work in a multi bet

When you combine selections from three separate matches, the odds of each selection are multiplied together. Say the decimal odds of the three selections are 1.40, 1.60 and 1.80 — multiplied together they come to roughly 4.03. So a ৳100 bet returns ৳403 if all three win.

1.40 × 1.60 × 1.80 = 4.03

৳100 × 4.03 = ৳403 — but only if all three selections win. If even one loses, the entire ৳100 is gone.

A multi bet offers a higher potential return, but the risk is also higher. It is a form of entertainment — not a way to earn a steady income. Read about responsible gaming.

Live Betting

When a wicket falls or an over is bowled — how in-play odds change

bajibet live in-play betting screen

Live or in-play betting means placing bets while a match is in progress. Odds are recalculated after every wicket, every boundary and every dot ball.

Say Team A loses two wickets in the first five overs. At that point Team A's win odds will lengthen, because their chances are considered to have fallen. Conversely, if Team B's batsman hits two sixes in a row, Team B's odds will shorten.

In ODI and Test matches, the run rate is assessed after the powerplay. If a team falls behind the target, their in-play odds lengthen, and that change is reflected instantly in the live market.

In a T20 match, odds move fastest in the final five overs, when the pressure on the run rate is at its peak. On the bajibet live betting screen you can see real-time updates and make decisions accordingly.

Live betting is even easier on mobile. Keep push notifications turned on in the bajibet App so you never miss a key moment.

Practical Tips

Things to keep in mind before starting cricket betting

01

Understand one market well

Rather than jumping into every market at once, build experience with one first — Match Winner or Total Runs.

02

Set your budget in advance

Set a separate budget for each match. Never go beyond your total allocation — betting is entertainment, not a source of income.

03

Keep track of pitch and weather conditions

A batting-friendly pitch raises the chance of a high-scoring game; a spin-friendly pitch makes the Top Bowler market more interesting.

04

Avoid rushing in live betting

Odds move quickly in in-play betting. Assess the situation rather than acting on impulse.

Common Questions

What you want to know about cricket betting

BPL and IPL T20 matches offer multiple markets including match winner, toss, top batsman, top bowler, total runs (over/under), and multi bets. You can also bet on live in-play markets while the match is in progress.

Live betting is most active in T20 matches, because the situation changes quickly every over and odds update frequently. ODI and Test matches also have live markets, but those change more gradually.

Multiply the decimal odds by your stake to get the total return. Example: odds 2.50, stake ৳1,000 — return ৳2,500 (৳1,500 profit + original ৳1,000). At odds 1.50: ৳1,000 × 1.50 = ৳1,500 return (৳500 profit).

The match winner market in a Test match usually has three options — Team A win, Team B win, and draw. If you bet on Team A and the match ends in a draw, that bet is lost. So it is important to factor in the possibility of a draw when betting on Test matches.
